Barry Abbott, a partner in the firm of SSRGA, LLP, is an AV® Preeminent™ rated trial and appellate litigator, honored with the New York Super Lawyers Award, practicing matrimonial and family law since 1981. Having tried numerous and complex, high income and asset matrimonial and family law cases, as well as jury and bench trials in civil and criminal defense matters, and having prepared and argued appeals before the New York State Court of Appeals and the First and Second Departments of the Appellate Division, Barry has established credibility with both judges and adversaries and has the gravitas to effectively represent his clients and provide them with wise counsel.
A member of the Executive Committee of the Family Law Section of the New York State Bar Association, the New York City Bar’s Committee on State Courts of Superior Jurisdiction, faculty member of the New York College of Matrimonial Trial Attorneys and a New York City Bar delegate member of the Interdisciplinary Forum on Mental Health and the Law, Barry was a participating attorney on the ABA Project Against International Child Abduction, a mentor attorney for InMotion (fka Network for Women’s Services), and was appointed by the Appellate Division, First Department to be a member of its Family Court Advisory Committee. He is a member of the family law and litigation sections of the American Bar Association, and the family law sections of the New York State Bar Association and the New York City Bar Association, where he serves on several committees and sub-committees. Barry has been published in the NY Family Law Monthly and The Matrimonial Strategist.
Barry fell in love with music as a young boy and started playing guitar when he was in grade school. While in college he performed as a singer-guitarist, both as a solo performer and in bands, playing six and twelve string acoustic, slide and electric guitars, and he continues to play for friends and family and for his own enjoyment. A devoted father, Barry coached his two sons in soccer and baseball, imparting in them his love for athletics, competition and teamwork.
