Matthew Ulmann, is an associate of the firm’s real estate litigation practice. Upon graduating law school, Mr. Ulmann represented multiple real estate holding companies at a large, international based law firm. He subsequently served as a law clerk for the Honorable Anil C. Singh in the New York State Supreme Court, Commercial Division and New York State Appellate Division, First Judicial Department.
Prior to law school, Matthew was an educator in the New York City Department of Education (the “Department”) for 8 years. During his teaching career, he gained a vast array of experience working with students at all levels of educational abilities. He was involved in creating and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEP) for these students. After graduating law school, he joined the Department as an agency attorney in the Special Education Unit. In this role, he litigated numerous claims in defense of the Department under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (“IDEA”). He was also responsible for settling claims filed by parents to ensure that their child received the necessary educational services to be successful. Due to this vast array of experience, he is familiar with the substantive requirements that the Department must follow under the IDEA to ensure that an appropriate IEP is created and implemented.
Mr. Ulmann is admitted to practice law before the Courts of the State of New York, as well as the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and his Juris Doctor from New York Law School.
