Matthew A. Ulmann is an associate in the firm’s litigation department focusing on complex commercial and real estate litigation.
Mr. Ulmann is an experienced litigator who has handled cases involving a broad range of real estate and general commercial matters at both the trial and appellate levels. Mr. Ulmann’s reported cases, published articles and public speaking engagements include, 14 East 4th Street Unit 509 LLC v Toporek [1st Appellate Division, 2022] [case of first impression in which the Appellate Division affirmed summary judgment against a residential tenant pursuant to Real Property Law § 227-e and General Obligations Law § 7-108[1-a][e]); Local Law 18: A Change to Short-Term Rentals in New York City, New York Real Estate Law Reporter [Vol. 40, No. 3, November 2023]; and Security Deposits: What Attorneys Should Know to Protect Their Clients’ Rights, Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association [Presenter, 2023].
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Ulmann worked at a large, international law firm handling commercial real estate transaction matters. Mr. Ulmann also clerked in both the New York State Supreme Court of New York Commercial Division and the Appellate Division, First Department for the Honorable Anil C. Singh.
Mr. Ulmann is admitted to the Bar of New York, and the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. Mr. Ulmann received his Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2006 and his law degree, magna cum laude from New York Law School in 2015. While at New York Law School, Mr. Ulmann served as the Legal Scholarship Editor of the New York Law School Law Review.
Mr. Ulmann has been selected as a Super Lawyers, Rising Star in Real Estate law in both 2022 and 2023. Mr. Ulmann also volunteers as a member of the Board of Directors of Shuang Wen Academy Network (SWAN), a language immersion program for students in need.
