Jared E. Paioff is a partner of the firm and a seasoned litigator whose practice areas primarily include real estate and general business litigation. His extensive real estate litigation experience (at trial and appellate levels) covers a broad range of real estate-related matters, such as construction defects in residential condominiums, real property contract disputes, trespass and air rights disputes, violations of commercial leases, director and officer liability issues, and breaches of AIA and construction agreements. Mr. Paioff provides general counseling to the boards and managing agents of the firm’s cooperative and condominium clients, and defends and prosecutes actions on their behalves concerning anything from transient occupancy and subletting issues to alteration and property damage disputes with unit owners, tenants, sponsors, and neighboring buildings. Mr. Paioff also counsels owners, operators, and developers of multi-family and residential condominium properties in a wide range of transactions and in all facets of litigation and alternative dispute resolution.
Mr. Paioff’s commercial practice encompasses all aspects of business litigation on behalf of corporations, LLCs, partnerships, and individuals. He has represented the firm’s clients in matters involving disputes over commercial and advertising contracts, non-compete agreements, employment disputes, copyright infringement and theft of trade secret actions, bankruptcy proceedings, and commercial collection matters. Mr. Paioff also specializes in counseling and litigating on behalf of startups and emerging companies.
In 2015-2019, Mr. Paioff was named a Rising Star by New York Super Lawyers in the areas of real estate law and business litigation. He also is regularly quoted in The New York Times and other news publications.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Paioff was an associate at Wolf Haldenstein Adler Freeman & Herz LLP and also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Marcy S. Friedman, Commercial Division Justice of the New York Supreme Court for the County of New York.
Mr. Paioff is admitted to the bar of the State of New York, the Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. In his spare time, Mr. Paioff is active in various charitable organizations, including Cycle for Survival, the Anti-Defamation League, and the JCC of Manhattan
